The City Consumer Cooperative Union was established with two main functions: conducting direct business operations and organizing Cooperative movements.

Saigon Co.op shifted from traditional retail to modern retail with the establishment of Cong Quynh Co.opmart.
12/1998
The 1st General Meeting of Members set the direction to develop the Co.opmart chain into a leading supermarket chain in Ho Chi Minh City and nationwide.
2002
Saigon Co.op opened Co.opmart Can Tho – the first provincial supermarket, marking the beginning of Saigon “Co.op’s pursuit to establish a nationwide Co.opmart presence”.
2004
Achieving ISO 9001:2000 certification.Saigon Co.op and Co.opmart implemented a systematic quality management system in line with the global business environment.
2007
Establishment of Saigon Co.op Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (SCID) to professionalize investment and construction activities, infrastructure development, and retail operations for Saigon Co.op.
2008
Development of the Co.op Food, a chain of safe and convenient food stores.
2010
The Co.opmart supermarket system expanded across the country, reaching 50 supermarkets nationwide. Co.opmart Saigon in Hanoi – the first Co.opmart supermarket in the North.
2012
Co.opmart unveiled a new brand identity. Commencement of SC VivoCity Shopping Mall’s construction - a joint venture between SCID and Mapletree Group, under Temasek, a Singaporean state-owned investment company.
2013
Development of the Co.opXtra hypermarket model, a joint venture between two cooperatives: Saigon Co.op – Vietnam’s leading retailer and NTUCFairPrice – Singapore’s leading retailer.
2014
Lanch of the Sense City Shopping Center model, which integrates diverse products and services in one modern shopping space.

Officially putting into operation Co.opSmile, a new business model comprising modern grocery stores, with the mission of modernizing the familiar grocery store model for Vietnamese people, bringing quality goods at reasonable prices to customers

Putting into operation the Cheers convenience store model, the fruit of many years of cooperation between Saigon Co.op (Vietnam) and NTUC FairPrice (Singapore)

Grand opening of Co.opmart Duyen Hai supermarket – Co.opmart reached 100 supermarkets nationwide.

Launch of the Finelife premium supermarket model in 2019, the first premium supermarket brand in Vietnam

Development of the Co.op Online channel, increasing convenience for customers, meeting the needs of digital transformation in the retail industry, etc.
2021
Co.opmart turned 25 years old, setting a record as the oldest purely Vietnamese supermarket system in Vietnam.

Co.opFood chain reached a total of 500 stores

Launch of the district-level supermarket model, Co.opmart Cho Moi – An Giang
2023
(Saigon Co.op) and Saigon VRG Investment Corporation (Saigon VRG) commenced the construction of SVI 1 Logistics Area – Saigon Co.op Western Distribution Center – Le Minh Xuan 3 Industrial Park in Le Minh Xuan Industrial Park, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City.

Grand opening of SenseMarket Cai Be Shopping Center – Tien Giang Province. The 5th shopping center in the Sense Shopping Center chain, which is exploited, managed and operated by SCID. This is a new shopping mall model that SCID has focused on researching and launching

Saigon Co.op celebrates its 35th anniversary – the retailer with the most modern retail models in Vietnam with over 800 outlets across the Northern, Central and Southern regions. Each outlet is a distribution point for Vietnamese goods and market stabilization, serving over 1 million customers visiting and shopping every day.
