Completed 150 Co.op Cares social projects

The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trade Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op) has successfully completed a series of 150 social projects under the Co.op Cares initiative, bringing positive changes to thousands of families and vulnerable individuals across the country.

With the motto “Vietnamese supermarket, built by Vietnamese people, for Vietnamese people to serve”, Saigon Co.op has always been persistent in its mission of bringing value to the community. In its 35-year development journey, Co.op Cares was born as an important milestone demonstrating Saigon Co.op’s deep commitment to society.

These include hundreds of “support to school” scholarships regularly awarded to poor students overcoming difficulties every year. Spreading love through 150 social projects

Co.op Cares is one of the key activities to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Saigon Co.op. The program aims to support disadvantaged people and areas in need, bringing a better quality of life to everyone.

Since its launch, Co.op Cares has received attention and support from partners and customers. The program's projects have reached remote areas, bringing practical values ​​that contribute to improving the lives of local people.

Among the projects, the most prominent is the project to light up the village road using solar energy in Dun commune, Chu Se district (Gia Lai). After completion, the project will not only bring light to the people in the highlands, but also contribute positively to the local economic development.

At Dak Dam Border Guard Station (Dak Nong), Saigon Co.op built a well to provide clean water for the border guards. In addition, the program also built a toilet for the Kindergarten in Phuoc Hoa Commune (Ninh Thuan), contributing to improving living conditions and protecting the health of young children.

Not only stopping at infrastructure projects, Co.op Cares also focuses on the medical field. Saigon Co.op has organized many humanitarian blood donation programs at more than 10 locations nationwide, collecting 3,500 units of blood, helping to increase blood reserves and contribute to patient treatment.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thang - Deputy General Director of Saigon Co.op - said that in order to pursue the core value of "for the community", Saigon Co.op is always there to provide timely support whenever people encounter difficulties.

When the drought and salinity broke out, causing a serious shortage of fresh water in the West, Saigon Co.op quickly sent 100 cubic meters of domestic water, 1,000 barrels of drinking water and 50 500-liter water tanks to help people stabilize their lives.

When the historic typhoon Yagi swept through the North, causing serious damage, Saigon Co.op continued to take action, giving away 1,000 gifts of necessities to people in affected areas.

Notably, on November 2, Co.opmart Quang Binh donated 1,300 banh chung and 100 barrels of mineral water to people in Le Thuy district, which was submerged in water after storm Tra Mi. In addition, the supermarket also provided personal items to Le Thuy District General Hospital to support community health care.

Just 2 days later, on November 4, Co.opmart Quang Tri supermarket continued to coordinate with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Vinh Linh district to present 100 practical gifts to people in Vinh Son and Vinh Thuy communes of Vinh Linh district (Quang Tri).

On November 6, at Co.opmart An Nhon supermarket, the program “Charity supermarket – Lighting up Vietnamese goods” was organized, presenting 50 gifts of necessities to disadvantaged families in Binh Dinh and Nhon Hung wards (Binh Dinh). Each gift is a voucher worth 1,500,000 VND, helping disadvantaged households have more opportunities to buy quality Vietnamese products.

35 years of development and commitment to the community

From now until the end of November 2024, the supermarket system will continue to coordinate with P&G to give 350 gifts to people in need nationwide through the "Compassionate Supermarket" program at 6 locations in Ho Chi Minh City, Southeast - Central Highlands, West 1, West 2, North and Central regions.

“Charity Supermarket” is a form of “zero-dong supermarket”, an initiative to help people in difficult circumstances experience shopping at the supermarket. Each participant will receive a shopping voucher worth 1,500,000 VND and can choose any gift from the charity supermarket, including products from sponsor P&G and essential necessities.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thang - Deputy General Director of Saigon Co.op - shared: "The noble actions and gestures along with the practical gifts of the Saigon Co.op staff working together to complete the progress of 150 projects in the past 10 months have demonstrated the noble motto of the cooperative "one for everyone, everyone for one" that Saigon Co.op has always persistently implemented since its inception. That is a unique cultural feature that has guided all activities of Saigon Co.op over the past 35 years".

Moreover, Saigon Co.op is also a pioneer retailer in building a sustainable supply chain and system. The supermarket actively promotes green consumption habits through promotional programs, preferential sales policies and displays of environmentally friendly products. Saigon Co.op also encourages customers to use environmentally friendly bags when shopping at points of sale.

In addition, Saigon Co.op also encourages its staff to participate in the green living movement from the office to their residence, and at the same time encourages partners and suppliers to switch to green production.

Saigon Co.op representative affirmed that they will continue to join hands with customers and partners to implement more meaningful and practical projects to help improve people's lives, support the disadvantaged as well as aim for sustainable development of society.
