Free transportation for 900 people to return home for Tet

NDO - At the break of dawn on February 5th (the 26th of Tet), the Sai gon Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op) organized “the Happy Buses” to bring 900 people from various regions across the country back home for Tet.

A convoy of 20 buses, each of which accommodates 45 people, depart from 2 locations: Ho Chi Minh City (departure point is Co.opmart To Ky supermarket, Trung My Tay ward, District 12) to the Southwest and Southeast regions, Central Vietnam provinces and Central Highlands; Hanoi (departure point is Co.opmart Hanoi supermarket, Ha Dong district) to the provinces of the North and Northwest.

Among 900 passengers on “the Happy Buses”, most of whom are employees working in industrial and export processing zones; students studying at universities and colleges; freelancers; and job seekers. Over 40% of the passengers were families (with 2 or more than 3 members), including many children accompanying their parents back to their hometown for the holiday.

 To ensure the safety of all passengers, the drivers of “the Happy Buses” have been carefully selected; on the same route, the drivers will take turns at the wheel to guarantee that all passengers would be transported safely to their doorsteps.

The longest journey is estimated to take 24 hours to reach Quang Binh province (on February 6th, the 27th of Tet).

In this year program, thanks to the support of Unilever Vietnam, Coca Cola Vietnam, P&G Vietnam and Mayhome, all passengers will receive free transportation, meals, and drinks throughout the journey, along with a Tet gift basket and a travel expenses with a value totaling over 1,000,000 VND per person.

 Additionally, when the buses travel through areas in which a Co.opmart supermarket is located, the staff will provide passengers with water and food supplies to facilitate their journey back home for Tet.

 Speaking at the departure ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thang, Co.opmart Operations Director, shared: “Introduced in 2023, Saigon Co.op's ‘Happy Buses’ program has been praised for its social and humanitarian values, making it a program suitable for big cities to which a large number of workers across the country come”.

Continuing its previous success, this year, the program has been expanded to the capital city of Hanoi. “The happy buses” program is expected to become an annual activity of Saigon Co.op on the basis of connecting with agencies and organizations nationwide.
