Saigon Co.op Signs Agreement to Develop Sustainable Green Supply Chain
At the 'Conference on Connecting Sustainable Supply Chain Development - Enhancing Vietnamese Goods Quality' held on March 8, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trade Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with six partners, committing to jointly build a sustainable green supply chain.
The purpose of the signing is to enhance product quality, ensure consumer health benefits, improve business production efficiency, stabilize the market, and contribute to increasing the effectiveness of the "Vietnamese People Prioritize Vietnamese Goods" campaign.
"Each additional signing is like another affirmation of stable cooperation, committing to fully meet the supermarket's quality standards. I am always proud to be a long-term supplier for Saigon Co.op." - Mr. LE MINH SANG (Director of Tan My Cooperative, Binh Duong)
Joining Hands to Improve Quality
Saigon Co.op has signed agreements with six enterprises and cooperatives: Anh Hoàng Thy, San Hà (suppliers of livestock and poultry meat), Nhuận Đức Safe Vegetable Cooperative, MeKong Delta Food Company, Xuân Thái Thịnh Company (suppliers of vegetables and fruits), and Tân Mỹ Cooperative (supplier of fresh fruits).
Currently, these partners supply an average of 500 tons of goods per month to Saigon Co.op's distribution systems.
Under this agreement, Saigon Co.op and its partners commit to building a sustainable green supply chain that serves consumers while ensuring public health benefits, business efficiency, and market stability. This initiative also aims to strengthen the effectiveness of the "Vietnamese People Prioritize Using Vietnamese Goods" campaign.
According to Mr. Nguyễn Anh Đức, CEO of Saigon Co.op, this cooperation is designed to connect and support the domestic market for locally produced goods and unique Ho Chi Minh City products, enabling them to compete with imported goods and orient toward exports.
"Increasing collaboration will create favorable conditions for Saigon Co.op and its business partners to connect directly, share market insights in a timely manner, exchange experience in developing distribution channels, and provide standardization information to bring products into Saigon Co.op’s distribution network," Mr. Đức emphasized.
From a supplier’s perspective, Mr. Lê Minh Sang, Director of Tân Mỹ Cooperative and an outstanding farmer in Bắc Tân Uyên District (Bình Dương), stated that grapefruit is their main product. As a long-term partner of Saigon Co.op, the cooperative is committed to strictly following production processes to deliver high-quality products.
Expanding into Export Markets
According to Saigon Co.op’s leadership, this collaboration also creates opportunities for Vietnamese goods and domestically produced products to reach international markets through Saigon Co.op’s strategic partner, NTUC FairPrice (Singapore).
In 2023, Saigon Co.op exported Vietnamese agricultural and seafood products to Singapore, with a total export value of nearly 90 billion VND through its partnership with NTUC FairPrice.
Saigon Co.op, in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Industry and Trade, has been actively engaging with high-tech agricultural enterprises, food processing businesses, and manufacturers of specialty goods in the city and neighboring provinces. The initiative aims to connect and support reputable businesses with advanced technologies, helping them expand their market networks.
At the "Conference on Connecting to Build a Sustainable Supply Chain – Enhancing the Quality of Vietnamese Goods" on March 8, Saigon Co.op and five other major retail systems signed a cooperation agreement to control product quality across Ho Chi Minh City. This initiative received strong support from the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and other government departments.
The agreement is voluntary, with the primary goal of protecting consumer interests and leveraging each retailer’s ability to control product quality. The retailers will work together to prevent unsafe food from entering the market.
According to Saigon Co.op’s representative, although these agreements vary in format, they all share the same objective: enhancing quality control at the supply level to improve the overall standards of goods sold across Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food, and other Saigon Co.op retail systems.
“This initiative will be further strengthened in the future to ensure that all suppliers adhere to quality commitments and take greater responsibility in production, ultimately providing consumers with higher-quality products,” Mr. Nguyễn Anh Đức stated.
Online Sales increase by 20.7%
In 2023, Saigon Co.op recorded total revenue of nearly 30 trillion VND, with online sales surpassing 1.7 trillion VND, marking a 20.7% growth compared to the previous year.
Saigon Co.op also actively collaborates with the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City in economic and social development programs that connect the city with provinces across the country. These programs focus on expanding supply chains, developing value chains, balancing supply and demand, and promoting trade and goods circulation, aligning with regional development strategies and planning policies.
