Saigon Co.op provides drinking water, household water, and water tanks to communities in the saltwater-affected areas of Go Cong, Tien Giang

PNO - On May 18th, 2024, Saigon Co.op cooperated with Co.opmart My Tho, Co.opmart Go Cong and two sponsors, Ariel - a laundry detergent brand, and Vietnam Payment Solution Joint Stock Company (VNPAY) provided drinking water, household water, and water tanks to communities in areas affected by saltwater intrusion in Tan Phuoc commune, Go Cong Dong district, Tien Giang province.

The donation items, worth almost 200 million VND, include: 100 cubic meters of domestic water, 1.000 barrels of drinking water and 50 500-liter plastic water storage tanks. Representatives of Saigon Co.op and sponsors also visited vulnerable and disadvantaged households to deliver these water supplies.

This is the first activity under the community activity platform called Co.op Cares - a platform launched by Saigon Co.op in April 2024. The focus of this platform is the plan to implement 150 social projects in the fields of education, health, environment, community, etc.

Tien Giang is one of the provinces with the most Co.opmart stores in Vietnam, including Co.opmart My Tho, Go Cong, Cai Be and Cai Lay. As the earliest pure Vietnamese retailer in Tien Giang (Co.opmart My Tho opened in 2006), the Co.opmart system in the region has become a favorite shopping destination for local people. “As climate change continues to have devastating impacts on the lives of people in the Mekong Delta in general and Tien Giang province in particular, Saigon Co.op hopes these would be practical gifts to help people quickly stabilize their lives” Ms. Ho Thi Hong Dao, Deputy Director of Marketing at Saigon Co.op, shared at the ceremony.
